President of Italy in 2016 was (and still is) Sergio Mattarella. Their government, currently, is the republic; that makes their government name the "Italian Republic". The elections for President are held every seven years; this means that their next election for the Executive Branch is going to be in the following year: 2018. June 1946, Italy voted to be rid of the Monarchy; the replacement, instead, was a Republic. A new constitution was written which came into play in January 1948. Seven years after, Italy had become a part of the UN (United Nations).
